When blogging first became popular, bloggers spent little time thinking about the monetary gains associated with their daily blogging. They logged on every day and spit out some interesting information and went off to work their “real” job. As the popularity of blogging grew and traffic to blogs increased, businesses began to see the variable gold mine associated with the blogging empire. Advertisement space was created and the money started rolling in for the blogger.
At first, businesses just wanted blog space to rent because blogging was so new and misunderstood. As the hobby grew into an art and finally into a business, bloggers became more selective in regards to the advertisers allowed on their blogging space. Along parallel lines, businesses became more and more picky when choosing a blog to pay for their rental advertising space.
With the introduction of Google and Google Adsense, blogging for money became a very real endeavor. Blogs were set up left and right by novice bloggers in hopes of finding that perfect formula for the million dollar blog. When, in reality, the million dollar blog is more of a myth than reality.
Sure, there are business out there that claim to be making millions of dollars each year blogging every day. These bloggers are professionals, they have been blogging for many years and the traffic to their blogs alone would rival many major online retailers. The money they make is not from Google Adsense or click through ads, the money they make is from the rental space they provide to businesses who see the successful blog as a great jump off point for increased business to their own websites.
If you are thinking of starting a blog with a million dollars in mind, think long term and think hard about your choice. Money can be made with a successful blog, but the bloggers that are making a living out of blogging did not achieve that status overnight. Only years of work, dedication and a great sense of what readers really want to read has led these webpreneurs to the million dollar club.
That being said if you put in the time and effort and create a plan for achieving your dreams, the sky is truly the limit.
