Kick the Block: Writing Tips When You Got the Blues

Writers have all faced the block. In fact, I am facing one right now. How do you write about writing tips when you have writer’s block. Well, I knew I had to do this so I decided to perform some of the old tried and truisms.

One thing that has always helped me is to take a drive. Nowadays this might seem to be environmentally irresponsible, but when the words just won’t drop, nothing is more helpful to me than a drive. A teacher of mine once told me that the method of performing a task that you really are not consciously doing helps to clear your mind.

Now, I don’t mean to say that I was not conscious while driving but as I whipped around those well-known corners, my mind was in a sort of hypnotic state. Does this sound a little crazy? Too bad. It works.

Other writers have told me that they turn on their favorite music, and blot out all other thoughts. Some tap dance, take a walk, or do deep breathing exercises.

One rather eccentric writer friend of mine told me that he would go to the refrigerator, stare lovingly at the contents, and then go back to his writing chores. God knows why this works. But, it did, for him. I think every writer has their own way of writing.

And in the end of it, we all find out own way of kicking the block. No matter how weird, how unique, how totally over the edge, writer’s block can not keep a good writer down. We will find a way around those bricks and come out fighting for those next few words.

Blogger’s block is difficult for everyone. What seems to work the best for me is to watch news programs: local news, Dateline, 48 Hours. I find inspiration in simple words that take me to any level of blogging. I often sit watching these programs with a pen and paper. I jot my thoughts and when the program is over, immediately get up and write the post. This has enabled me to create a post arsenal like none other. I think I could not blog for a month and still publish something for all 30 days.

Good luck over coming your block. It’s just a matter of finding out what’s right for you. And when you find it, I’d love to hear about.

Yes, very time consuming, because you are not only posting but also researching, networking, social bookmarking, and building traffic to your blog. The creation and marketing of a blog are hard work.

But as in anything, if you enjoy this then it is its own reward!

Sorry, I responded to a different post there! Regarding the block, I have 3 strategies:
    1. go for a lone walk
    2. use an article from ezinearticles, goarticles etc
    3. don’t post that day

It’s a good idea to go over to another blog for a bit of inspiration for another post. Remember not to outright copy ideas as this could bring about problems. Just draw some of the more intersting points of the post and create your own based on those points.
