An easy and relatively cheap way to get some good links is to sponsor a Free WordPress Theme. When you have a WordPress Theme created you can include links to your site or blog. This can be accomplished without WordPress or ever web development skills. Probably the easiest way to accomplish creating a nice WordPress Theme is to outsource it through a site like Script Lance.
I had 5 templates created for a different content management system for about $25 each and I was very pleased with my experience on Script Lance and have since had other projects done by the same developer I used previously. In addition to having a developer available to do things like this its also nice to know that I have someone I can reliably go to for other things I need to get done to keep my business up and running.
Of course there are going to be people that use your Theme and remove the links but if your Theme is worthy of talking about people will certainly write articles and link back to your theme which is the other way this will help you gain links. The more buzz you can create about your free theme the more use and free links you can get out of it.

Great idea Jason.
I would love to have a wordpress theme with my name on it. I modify the themes I have on my blogs but I am sure I make more of a mess even though I eventually get my changes to work.
thanks for the info, I am heading over to ScriptLance now.
