Ok maybe you won’t be rich or famous, but there are certainly good reasons to seek out opportunities writing for other blogs. You just need to go about it with some kind of plan. Taking care to find the right opportunity for the right reasons is important. Ok so lets take a look at this in more detail.
What are your reasons for wanting to write for another blog
Exposure - Its not a bad idea to guest blog or write for a blog regularly to gain exposure. This helps get your name out there and gain some exposure for your blog. This is especially true if the blog is a lot bigger than yours in the way of traffic. Just remember the more eyes on your writing the more likely there will be some criticism.
Additionally, you should look for opportunities that are the right exposure. If you blog about technology and computers it doesn’t make much sense to guest blog on a parenting blog simply to get exposure for your own blog. The best thing to do is to find some blogs in your niche and offer to write a guest post for the blog to help you get started. At a minimum be ready to show them some samples of your work.
Freelance paid gigs - If your looking to make some extra money or start a career as a freelance writer then the exposure is not as important to you as the ability to find work. There are plenty of places to find paid gigs out there. Problogger has a pretty good job board on his site. You can take a look here.
Be cautious and not take too much on at a time. Its easy to over book all of our time and not live up to expectations. As a rule of thumb I like to use the “Under promise and over deliver” motto.
As a final point to paid writing be cautious of deadbeat publishers that don’t want to pay. Chris offers some good tips at ChrisBlogging.
