Whenever a reader lands on your Blog you have to make a good impression if you expect the reader to come back. So how do you know if your blog is grabbing users or not? Good Question. There are a few ways to take an educated guess about the impression that your blogs look and feel gives your readers. Here are some ways you can find out what if anything needs to be changed.
Look at your stats – Just quickly look at three things and that will tell the story. How many unique visitors your getting. How many total visitors. This will allow you to see if people are returning or not. For example if you have 1,000 unique visitors and 5,000 total visits to your blog then each visitor came back to you site 5 times on average. This isn’t 100% accurate but it will give you an idea. The other piece of information to extract from your stats is length of visit and number of pages visited. This gives you your abandon rate. If all everyone only visits for >1 minute and visits one page you have a problem.
Trial and Error – Readers want an easy and quick way to do the things that they do. This includes commenting, bookmark, subscribe to feed and others. By tweaking the way things are displayed and ease of use can have an huge impact on number of Subscribers and social book marks. You just have to play around with it a bit.
Just ask people what they think – I know that just sounds too easy, right? This method will be far more effective than anything else you can do. When you ask for feedback on something people can’t say enough about what they like and more importantly what they don’t like. Simply create a post that asks the questions you want answered or keep it simply and ask what your readers would like done differently.
Even better than that. Email your friends and family and ask them to take a look at your blog and fill out a quick questionnaire. This is especially helpful when they don’t even know what your blog is about. Oh and friends and family will usually give you the truth so be ready to get your feeling hurt. But remember its for the better of your blog.
