Deep linking is the term used for pages within a site or blog that are directly linked to. When someone links to one of your posts, that is an example of a deep link. So now that you know what a deep link is lets talk a little bit about why you should use deep links within your own blog. This can also be referred to as internal links.
A better Crawl- When the search spiders come crawling your blog if you have links to other pages in your posts it makes it that much easier for more of your pages to be crawled and there for indexed.
Introduce your old material - Your new readers may not go and dig into your old posts on your blog. They simply pickup with your latest posts and carry on from there. If you link to some of your old posts you can entice them to read some of your other stuff. Just never use click here as the anchor text. I usually only click when there is a post title or some compelling reason to check it out.
To help combat scrappers - IF your familiar with MFA (Made For Adsense) sites then you know that there are people out there that write programs to scrap content from RSS Feeds in order to get their sites indexed with the intention of just making some cash without actually writing any content themselves. This is one of the biggest problems for us bloggers that are offering a full feed.
If you include deep links in your posts you can at least get your links out there and hopefully try and catch the bastards that are stealing your content. Because you have a link in your content it should send you a ping back with the url of the site stealing.
Of course I don’t include deep links in every new post I write these are a few reasons that I include them in some of my new posts.
