Blogging Balance - Getting the desired results

document your blogEvery morning you get up and have a new day of decision making in front of you. Depending on the decisions you make you will get different outcomes. They may not be the outcomes you envisioned when you made the decisions but they will be the result of those decisions.

To make the best decisions we try and evaluate the situation and determine the desired outcome. Sometimes we have enough information in our heads to make that decision very quickly to get our desired outcome. Other times its a bit more tricky and we need more data to interpret to see exactly how we can achieve our goal.

When it comes to blogging there is no shortage in statistical data to help you recreated a desired outcome as you blog from day to day. For example, lets say on a particular day you saw a massive increase in your traffic of 400%. The increase was short lived and your traffic quickly returned to its normal numbers. A few weeks later you decide you want to try and duplicate that outcome. So you set down and start the day. The problem is you don’t have the first clue as to what you did that day or even that days leading up to the change in traffic.

The solution: Document your efforts. If you think it is impossible to document everything we do, your absolutely right. There would be no way to record your actions all the time. And even harder to go back and ind the information you wanted in the first place. It would just be a big waste of time. However, it is not impossible to jot things down that matter.

For the above example I would start off by looking to see where this new found traffic is coming from, what I wrote about, what was being linked to and what marketing efforts I made on that day. These are the things you want to evaluate and duplicate. If you keep a blogging journal to record things of importance like this it will make your life so much easier and help you better define goals and build your processes.

Hey no one ever said blogging would be easy. It does take some conscious effort to be successful. But I know you will be successful. :-)
